I had one of those fathers who seemed to be a master at everything. Whether it was maintaining his vehicles or laying a stone path through the backyard he approached everything with high degree of craftsmanship that was admirable. This was both overwhelming and in later years a source of pride for me as I might watch him do leather crafting or put a jacuzzi in. To this day I always enjoy watching a master of any trade do their job.
So when I consider the roast masters that are the heart of any good roasting house, it’s with the same sense of admiration. The combination of magical taste buds, technical skills, and the knowledge that comes with years of experience make or break the hard work that brought the coffee bean from the field to the roasting house. Just consider any good blended coffee you’ve ever drunk. Anybody can mix coffee beans together but it take a roast master to craft a great coffee out of the combination.
