Drat. You caught me and now I’m going to have to fire my proofreader. How “free” slipped into the last paragraph when it should have been “fair” is beyond me. (It’s been corrected.)

Your response seems to have missed the point of the blog. Whether “free” trade is always evil and “fair” trade is always good was not the point. Whether the consumer will make the choice to choose the better social choice when it means paying more for their cup of cappuccino was the point, especially when the recession may require them to choose between paying rent and stopping at the local coffee shop today.

I wanted to point out a very important mistake you made writing this. FREE trade is the exact opposite of fair trade. Free Trade allows buyers to go into poor countries and pay unfair wages, get around safe working conditions and child labor laws we have in place here. FAIR trade protects producers from the horrors of free trade. For a better understanding of the differences check my website under “What is Fair Trade” and WTO and the “Battle in Seattle” under “Making a Difference.It’s very important that people know the difference!
